94 Z28 LT1 Swap
Anyone done a swap with the LT1 motor into a older Camaro? I am putting in a 1994 Z28 LT1 in to my daughters 78. I am getting the Painless harnees to make this easier, I had problems doing a Ford 5.0 HO swap into a 75 Bronco, way too many unnecessary wires.
I have to leave all the smog equipment and even add what is missing, like the cats, because here in california a 78 still needs to be smoged. I know... stupid
Anyway... will I need to run the matching transmission to get the check engine light to go out? or will I be able to make the Turbo 400 to work and have the check engine light go out?
If the check engine light is on, it won't pass smog.

Here's a great site for info on LT1 swaps. Not sure is he's done a LT1 to a 78 Camaro, but I'm sure much of his experience will help answer some of your questions.

The 94 uses the 4L60E transmission which is computer controlled, so the PCM will set codes if it does not see it. You can get the PCM reprogramed to delete the trnsmission control and it will be happy, or install the 4L60E transmission.
