81' won't idle in Park
Hi all, I am new to the forums and new to camaro's. I was just given an 81' camaro v6, but the caught is that the engine wants to die when you put it in park (it sort of pulses from about to die then it revs up to 1500-2000 rpm then back down to about to die, until finally it dies), but in drive it runs ok. I figured it was somewhere in the fuel system but where? Any advice to a chevy novice would be greatly apprecited.

If it were the fuel system I would think the pulsing would happen all the time. How about the timing? Whan is the last time it had a tune up? Give it a good tune up, set the timing (you should invest in a shop manual) then see how it goes. You might have a vac leak.

Thanks I will look into the timing and vacuum leak, I am sure it has been a while since it had a good tune up. Can I go about checking and setting the timing like normal or does the computer play a role. I have been reading that it was the first year to introduce a computer, will that pose a problem? What exactly does the computer control? Thanks for the response!!

The car is registered as a nonop currently so I haven't been able to drive it yet, still sitting at my aunts house. I am just trying to get it running so I once registered I can drive it worry free lol...

Saaampson74> More than likely since it's dying in the turns it's the power steering going bad or low on fluid.
Jakel> What type of carb? Could be a vacuum leak since it's only doing it in park at idle.
