81 w/ 454. need suspension upgrade!!
Hello everyone. I just bought a 1981 camaro with a new rebuilt 454. The problem, among other things, is that it sits way too low (about 3 inch clearance on the oil pan). It also, as suspected, handles like **** the way it is. Does anyone have any suggestions for complete front suspension upgrades that will not cost me more than the car? Anything is helpful at this point.
check your suspension bushings, shocks, and see if you have big-block springs. if you have regular ones, you should invest in a set of big-block springs. they'll keep that 454 a little higher off the ground.
i have a 78 with a 454 and the closest i could come was a spring out of a pontiac trans am with a 455.they fit perfect and the car sits level.i tried racing springs ,they were to short and to stiff.the car sit a little to low and they didnt have much give,to stiff.
one more thing you will need to change the front sway bar.you need the big front sway bar,i believe it is 15/16" or a 1 1/16",whatever came on the z-28.it wouldnt be a bad idea to put subframe connectors on either
Would any of you suggest a full front end suspension upgrade? I have been digging around on the internet for bolt on upgrades (usually k-bar). Does anyone run a big block with these kits? if so which one and how do you like it. Thanks.
