Default 81 speedo

Hi guys and gals,
I want to replace the 85mph speedo in my 81.I have found a 130mph on Ebay and was wondering if it is just a case of out with one and in with the other and its all good or do I need to replace the gear drive in the trans to suit the new speedo?

i actually have one from my 78, just pulled it to switch to a equus gauge.

if anyone else wants to chime in here and see if the swap is that easy, i can sell you mine and change the miles to match your car.

It depends if your 81 is still using the ecm or not.The speedometer from 81 was a 1 year only part because 81 was the only year of the 2nd gen cars that used a computer, and that speedo has an electrical speed sensor on the back of it.The housing that holds the gauges is also a little bit different right where the speedo sits in it..
