70 rs z28
I'm trying to get an idea of what the price range of a car like this should or could go for. I have my eye on one and have for some years. I'm very certain it is a real RS Z28 number matching, together, running and drive-able car. There maybe parts that have been changed like water pump ect. but the main heart of the car is there, engine, 4 speed tranny and rear axle. It has the nice wood grain, comfort weave interior and it's in nice usable shape, by which I mean has no tears, it looks NICE, old but nice. The color is Ghost Gray with Rally stripes. The kicker is it has rust. The paint is old and craized. The rails underneath arent thru the floor but they are bubbled and flaking.
I guess I'm at the point of how much could I offer for a car like this to where its a good offer for the guy who owns it and not a bad deal for me.? I don't think he wants to sell cheap. I don't blame him but I don't want to be upside down. Is a car like this rare enough that it could be a $50K - $60K car when redone or maybe more? I see alot going for $20K - $40K but they look like clones or not matching numbers. Would everyone say 'If you could get that car for $20K I would buy them all day long'.? Or, 'That's too much, you can find that car at a better price in better shape?' Does anyone understand what I'm getting at?
Looking forward to reading comments,
Thanks!

I have seen Numbers matching restored early 2nd gen Camaro's going for $25 - $35K. There are a lot of cars listed for 45+ but they are not selling. I would offer the guy $9500 for a running decent car with the rust issues you noted. You are looking at around $15 - $20 K to have it restored and 1/4 that if you do it yourself. Of course it all depends on how "restored" you want it.
I bought a running driving 67 camaro with rust for $6500. Two week sago i bought a running driving rust free 79 Z28 for $6500. neither are numbers matching but I am looking for drivers, not show cars. I drive and play with my cars and motorcycles so numbers matching isn't all that important to me.
