sounds good, just got around to buying the weatherstripping,gonna try and install next week. will try and do felt then too

 

I like the sweatshirt idea! I was gonna cut up one of our thick terrycloth towels. Guess I can look for some heavy duty felt tho.lol

 

ok i been lazy and its been cold so i havent got around to installing yet, I did notice the part they call bowout clips that are on the drip rails are riveted in and I guess to put the new ones on I'll have to drill out and hopefully use a pop rivet gun to install. I also noticed my window sweeps that mount on outside of door against glass need to be installed with small screws that are gone, so i need to find a place to order those. Heres my car

The new sweeps should have a small packet of screws down in the bottom of the box.

 

My sweeps came with new hardware too. If yours didn't the screws are just your average self drilling sheetmetal screw.

 

The early 2nd gens have a slot that the screw goes into, so they don't even need to be self tapping. Just be sure they aren't over 1/4" long or they'll come through the door skin!

 

Later seconds are slotted too.

 

Thanks guys, I overlooked the package of screws and it also came with the felt pads I needed to reglue. Its been cold and rainy so long I still haven't got to install (no garage). I'm hopin this weekend, The weatherstripping is OEM brand so im crossin my fingers have read alot of bad reviews. When I put the rubber around the bottom of doors do I put adhesive even where the little pins go in the door? Also on the drip rail where the rubber slides in do you use adhesive all inside the whole length of that chrome piece? Lastly I bought what they call blow out clips that are bradded to the old drip rail to help retain the weatherstripping, problem is when i drill them out how do I mount the new ones, I looked at rivets, but I need something that will be flat and not have any kind of tit stickin out against the body or the rubber, any ideas??

 

The only place you use the 3M weatherstrip adhesive is on the ends. Glue the whole pad at each end and also the mating surface on the metal, then stick them together and push the pins in place. The rest of the door and roof channel don't get glued.
Be sure to check the fit before installing it, as you wont get a 2nd chance once it's glued. Check that all the pins line up on the ends and the portion between. Don't push them in, just hold it close and check the fit.

 

I had some of the pins not line up on the 78. I just drilled a new hole and called it a day.
