Default 70 camaro auto transmission

i found a nice rebuilt 350/355 hp at PER in AZ to repower my 70, and im probably not going to keep the stock auto transmission. dont want to convert to a clutch. can i retrofit a 700r or do i have to use an exact replacement for the one thats in there? will a stock trans. work ok w/the increased hp? dont have any plans to race it. thanks.

a turbo 350 tranny will work fine. however a 700r-4 can be made to fit by modifying the crossmember and installing a pressure switch to activate the lockup converter. i have an IROC hotrod and i'll be jerking out my 700r soon to replace it with a TH350. it's a more solid tranny. sick

what model is your Camaro R/S, Z/28 or plain jane? your Camaro will have either a TH350 or TH400, both will be more than strong enough for your new motor. just have it rebuilt with a shift kit and a 2500 stall converter.
If your Camaro is a Z/28 or a R/S then I would keep it all org. if you do change the motor and trans keep all the org. parts so it can be put back even if the motor is blown up. the 2nd gen's are starting to bring more money so keep every thing you take off no matter how small
