1980 Rear Axle

RE: 1980 Rear Axle
All right ripped apart the rear end. 3.46 gear ratio. So is that a 3 series carrier? Lol. Replaced the wheel bearings and seals, took all the bearings out, and the ring and pinion. Well I got the new axles started lol. I used Moroso screw in studs.

RE: 1980 Rear Axle
For determining the axle ratio there is no need to disassemble the rear axle. Just count how many revolutions the driveshaft must make to give you one full turn of the rear wheel. If you need 3 and 3/4 turns you have a 3.73 axle.

RE: 1980 Rear Axle
Bought new gear and new carrier. SOLVED! 3 Series carrier from Aburn Gear LSD. 4:10 Richmond Ring And Gear. Next question, what is the best way to take out the bearing cones for the pinion? and the best way to reinstall the new ones? Of course they are not mentioned in the removal or installation guides.
