Default 1977 camaro rs sheet metal

Hi everyone, im obviously new here. I recently got a 1977 rs camaro. Came from the factory with a 350 and a 4spd. It needs a lot of body work, which i would love to learn how to do myself. It needs new quarter panels, which no aftermarket companies make, and NOS ones are super expensive. Lots of people near me are parting these things out, is it possible to carefully remove a good quarter off of another car and install it on mine? thanks in advance for any replies

Hey, I'm in the same boat. I bought a 1977 Camaro Z28 about a half a year ago and need to replace most of the back end. My suggestion is to check with Classic Industies or Year One for the sheet metal, they have the best. Also, if price is a concern, I saw some quarter panels and other body parts on a ebay store. Hope this helps.

Replacing the whole quarter is more work then using a quarter skin. A skin is about 90% of the quater. It requires solid metal around the edges of the quater to weld to. They can be found for less then $100

Do you have a welder? Mig or Tig? Do you know how to us it? Welding Sheet metal without warping it is a art form. I would not weld on a good car before you get good at it. You can glue the quarters skins inplace if you are not worried about showing it.

To remove a complete whole quarter would be a lot of work and you would have to pretty much cut/destory the attaching sheet metal all the way around. You then have to melt out the factory lead at the roof connection and drill out about 100 spot welds.

I found this today. V8 TV has a quick guide or high lights of a quarter pannel replacement. You my want to note how many special tools the body man uses. Also note the body man that removes the pannel is not the man who installs it. There is some skill in getting it right. This is most likely a show car so it needs to be near perfect.
