man hope you get your Camaro up and running, 73 with T top I have a 72 and was wondering what it would look like.

 

The painless TBI kit is good. I would however recommend you talk with Don Sutherland at Fuel Injection Specialties. They can convert your original harness to work with the Camaro. I have been to there shop and these guys are very good and they do very high quality work. They can also program the computer to work for how you want the engine configured. (delete the air pump etc)...

I've done a couple of these convesions and the only way that I was able to make it work was to use the facotry service manual that iIhad already bought for the wrecked donor car (94 Roadmaster). I have about 20 years of aircraft electrical troubleshooting and schmatic reading.I was able to make it work. however it took a very long time and there was still some issues...

Are you having to replace the door latch assemblies. I put new ones in mine as they were giving me fits. I had swapped the doors off the Berlinetta into mine so I could get power windows and locks...

I have installed the painless wire harness and it seems to work well. I can turn the engine over but I need to get a fuel pump relay that will fit the harness tomorrow. I also need to get a shorter serpentine belt since i removed the air pump. I already have the fuel pump and filter installed and hooked up, but i still need to run the fuel return line back to the tank (where would the best place be to get the gas back into the tank? should i drill a hole into the fill tube and somehow get a hose fitting to stay in it or is there a better place?).


rat454, did you take the whole doors off of the berlinetta and put them on your camaro? do they fit right on your 71' hinges or did you have to swap the berlinettas hinges on? It would be awsome if I could find one in the junkyard to swap doors with becauseboth of my doors arnt in toogood of shape and I already have an electric trunk hatch so having power locks and windows would be even cooler to add to it, besides being fuel injected [8D]. thanks for the tip

Classic industries now has the door shels .. www.classicindustries.com ...they are about 330 a door.. the part #'s are R 9681670 and the left is 9681671....Just in case you can't find them at the junk yard.

 

Cool, I got my 71 RS Z before I even had my liscense...still have it some 20 or so years later...

Keep it, love it, beat it, never sell it....

 

i got the car running now. it wouldnt start because of a stupid connection i made (i plugged a wire (that needed to be hot with the key on and during starting) into an accessory spot on the fuse box whick was ony hot in the on position.

i also took pictures but i have dialup so i need to find the time to sit down and upload them for an hour or so [>:]

I used the original 72 hinges on Berlineta doors...with no problems...
