Default 1967 camaro muncie 4spd shifter question

I just bought the correct muncie m20 trans for my 1967 camaro today and I noticed that it looks like the original style muncie shifter uses a mounting bracket to the crossmember. The shifter that came with the transmission is like a 1969 hurst style that mounts to the transmission. Do anyone know if the the shift handle ends up located at the same spot from a 1967 style to a 1969 style. I would like to mount it to the transmission like the 1969 so the shifter flexes with the transmission under hard acceleration to keep from having linkage bind. Hope someone can clear this up. thanks jeff
