They didn't. A 383 stroker is built off a 350 bore block and uses a 400 rotating assembly. A 400 block with a 400 rotating assembly would be.........a 400, not a 383.

Ok...just ordered my flywheel and damn that is expensive....lol...i will update as soon as i get it installed.....thanks agian to everone who has helped.

I forgot to ask.....will the dowel pin at the end of the crankshaft on flywheel side make a difference if its missing? I thought it was just there to line up the flywheel into position. Do you guys think that will cause the motor to be off balanced? My old 327 didnt have one, but its not a externally balanced moter either.

ok, so i finally installed the flywheel that was suggested and its all good now....thanks again to camaro69 and all of you who helped with the info....

So the correct flywheel was all that was needed. Problem with the vibration is gone?

Good you got it straightened out. Not surprised about the outcome tho.
What about the harmonic dampener, you have a 400 style there?

yeah, i used the balancer that it came with so im assuming its from a 400...

Glad I read this thread, my friend is having almost the exact same issue. I quized him about the flywheel.....guess what he is using!!! Better yet, guess what he is ordering!

I find that when people want to do a stroker its a lot easer to just order the complete kit. I get my kits with everything from the pistons to the bearings and balancers front and back and its balanced. For those that mix and mach its a lot harder to get it just right.
