Default SS Question

What is the ONLY SURE WAY to find out if a camaro is a true SS?

Is it in the VIN? Naaaaaah, I checked..

Is it in the Data Plate...?

I need to know for a restoration I hope to assume very soon!

Thanks!

FE

For most collectors, the protecto plate &/or build sheet is what they look for. Waranty service records also help. The quickest way also for 69' modelsis that X codes(X55 =SS350), (X66 =SS396), (X22 =SS396)were used only on SS optioned Camaro's. X11could mean SS350 with Style TrimOR a base Camaronon SSwith Style Trim. A '69 SS required at least power front disc brakes among other things. L. A. built Camaro's did'nt use X codes which makes it more difficult to prove.

Now we are getting somewhere. This is what the trim tag tells us....

built the 3rd week of Jan 1967 dont know about the 'M135'
Sort coupe/custom interior the 'NOS' is actually a 'NOR' and its the 14416th body built that year
Turquoise interior with custom buckett seats
All tinted windows, powerglide center console (tranny)
Doesn't say its an SS, then again doesn't say its not. Could be.

GREAT!

I need a '67 SS for a client very badly....

I need a job this winter and a big block'67 SS will fill that position nicely

I went to this site... http://www.chevy-camaro.com/chevy-ca...ecode-1967.asp

There is nothing on the whole page stating wether a car was an SS or an RS... In fact I didn't even see the letters...

So is there another way to tell, or was it an option that didn't actually use the letters "SS" but a code of some sort?

Thanks!
P.S. This Camaro site rocks, the other camaro place I found camaros(dotnet) is full of insulting asses, that get pissed at you when you get insulted and defend yourself.. Plus they can't and didn't answer my question directly... I mean I got it answered but only that the car is not an "SS" due to the 4th position on the data plate being blank... Tha'ts and indirect answer but it don't tell me how to ID a true SS...

Here's a thought. Have there been any KNOWN SS camaros that had the 4th position on the Tag left blank?
One more thing. How does one discern the correct size motor?
