Default Pull Engine or Not?

So my son decided to add aluminum heads on his 67 RS. it's not a numbers match anyway so not a big shock. Engine is a 4-bolt main came from a 72 C10 as far as I can figure from the #'s.

During the process of bolting on the new heads he stripped the front corner head bolt from the engine block. Right next to Cylinder #1.

Should I attempt this on my own, machining skills are medium and I do have all the tools including a 2" block of aluminum to make into a guide block.
Should I just pull engine and bring to machine shop?

Thoughts are appreciated.

Welcome to the club.
I would follow instructions installing a Heli-coil*® and leave engine in place.
Use a min 1/2 inch length coil and pack grease on drill bit and tang remover keeping out as many chips as you can from water jacket.

look for any cracks in or around the hole. its not easy to strip one of these, broken head bolts yes, I would suspect another issue may have added to the problem.

I don't want to admit how many of those things I put in the deck of my C2 427 block. Never pulled the motor for that, and Everett's advice is spot on. FWIW, I never drilled a deck hole before running the Heli Coil tap.
