Is it possible
First off there are alot of things that you will have to deal with the biggestwould be changing out the quarter panel because they are completely different if the car is in really bad condition then you could do it but if all the body parts are there for a firebird then i would just restore it. I think both cars are equally as good.
It's the same substructure, but that's about it. If you are trying to make an authentic looking Camaro, in addition to the rear quarter panels, you would have to change the tail panel, the whole front clip: fenders, hood, grill, etc. Andtheinterior isalso different between the two. Youwould wind up having a cross-breed, Dr. Frankenstein, and what would that do to the value of the car? With that muchlabor put into a normal collectible car,it would be worth a lot once it's done, but this onewouldn't be i.m.o. Honestly, I would keep it a Firebird cause let's face it, everybody and their brother has a 69 Camaro!
Well when I got the car it was the choice of a draged out 1969 camaro that needed a new frame (twisted), quarters, fenders, floor plans..... the works for $3,750 or a 69 firebird with a good frame that needed small patch panels for the quarters, and floor plans for 2,500. It has a straight 6 over head cam with a 3-4 speed tranny not running. Most interior. The thing is that I considered the quarters with out the grills on the sides but I want to make my own grills not too crazy but enough to see a difference. This car if converted will not be your regular run of the mill 69 camaro. I'vedrawn pics of what it will look like and if built it won't be for resale. This is my dream car and I plan to keep along long time. I just wanted to make sure that besides the quarter, everything else was bolt off and on.
If you are going to go that indepth with it then yeah, It will work and you will already have it apart so it will be less difficult. Do what makes you happy BTW.
It will still have the Pontiac vin # . Also the rear marker lights are different, the Firebird has a bird shape light. The tail panel, bumper, and trunk lock are different
If your going to run a SBC in it, then you might want to change the sterring linkage as they are different between Firebird and Camaro

Thats the very reason I have a Firebird. But it has all Chevy running gear,SBC, TH400, and 12 bolt
You dont see to many Firebirds at car shows and cruise nights
