Default RE: motor?

The 3970010 casting was only used during the latter half of 69 Camaro production (for 302 and 350 applications), but the block continued to be produced throughout the 70's for 350 applications and is one of the most common engine blocks.

If L188 is the date code that would be 12/18/68. That would make it a SS350 or 302. But since that casting number was used all the way to 1980 I not sure how to tell if its 68 or78?

If it is a 69 Z28 it will have a oversize DZ at the beginning of the engine pad number. If it is a real 69 302 it worth a good bit of money. If you track down the car ir came from it could be worth a lot of money.

sweet dude! ive still got my fingers crossed thou.
here is what has been done to it keep in mind this took a long time to get.
It is a fully modified motor that includes Comp medium cam, Comp aluminum Roller Rocker lifters, forged pistons, Brodix T1 aluminum heads with 221cc intake port and 67cc combustion chambers. These heads are valued at 2,500.00 each. Brodix orange stained aluminum Valve covers that match the motor. 1/4 inch thick Headers that match up to the heads and have had glass packs already welded on for straight pipes. Brodix 1000 Series High Rise Intake, Holley 750 Double Pumper carb with fuel rail to match. Over sized air cleaner, Moroso Motor Mounts. Too many things
to mention here but can list with pics if needed.

If that date code is L188 and its does not mean 78 you have a block that could be worth some money. You need to check the engine pad like it shows in the link. If its been machned off then then it will not matter any way.

When I say it worth something that is to someone restoring a car. It is no better then any of the other million plus blocks that came from that tooling. Infact there are many racers out there that like the 2 bolt main version better and thentheyadd to more bolts but at an angle.

You are the only one that can figure it out! You need to get the engine code as shown here.
http://www.chevy-camaro.com/chevy-ca...oding-help.asp

None of those numbersyou are showing arelong enough to be the engine code. Without that engine code no one can help you. All the casting with that number are same right up untill they are machined. How they where machined is the engine code.

The first two letters tell you how the engine was configed. If the first two letters are not below or the DZ (302)it is most likely a 1978 casting not the 68.
