Help identifying engine
Hey everyone,
I recently purchased a 68 Camaro. I'm in Alaska and the car is in Ft Worth, Tx at a shop getting some minor repairs. The car has a 427 but I don't have much other information other than some of the add-ons. The shop gave me the block casting number 3938512 which he said is a performance 427 and that it was pretty rare. He's going to try and get some additional information but I told him I'd rather he focus on the repairs so I can get the car picked up and delivered to me. I did some digging online but other than flagging a couple of advertisements for other 1st gen camaros for sale with the same casting number, I haven't been able to find much other information. None of the sites I've found with a database of casting numbers listed this particular number.
Anyone know of a site that would give me additional information, or have first hand knowledge of this particular block?

This big block Chevy castings chart is from this site. I can't vouch for its accuracy, but the closest number shown to 3938512 is 3963512 which was used between 69 and 71. Is it possible a couple numbers got transposed? 3963512 1969-71 427/454 4.250 335, 390, 400, 425 COPO, 430, 435, relieved lower cylinders & thick cylinder walls

its definitely possible he gave me the incorrect numbers. I asked him about the block casting date but he said he couldn’t read it. They’re going to be repainting the block for me so maybe they can get a better look while its out of the car and prepped.

What you have is a 427 LS6 that was put in the 69 Yenko Camaro and Chevelle. It's a rare and valuable engine. See if they can get you the engine code and/or partial vin, stamped either on the pad in front of the passenger side head, or center of the block, above the timing chain cover.
