Default Coil springs

Still rebuilding the front end on my 67. What's the advice for replacing the original coil springs? How do you tell if they are still good? I see nothing wrong with them. What's the risk for NOT replacing them? If I don't replace them I will have them powder coated. Anybody see anything wrong with that?

Thank you for any ones advice.

All springs settle and loose elasticity over time. If they are well used or rusty they are due for replacement. Measure the diameter of the rod used and the number of coils. GM used many front springs based on the engine and accessories weight (like A/C) and adjusted the springs accordingly. Check the sites for replacements close to your spec's.

Is the engine in the car? If it's out, then it's going to be tough to decide if the springs are shot. Once the engine is in you can see how much travel you have between the lower control arm and the bump stop rubber. Anything less than about 2" is too little, and the springs are shot.
