building up a 396
I have a 69 camaro RS/SS. It currentley has a built up 355 small block. I have a 396 block bored 30 over that I want to build up. I want to be able to run pump gas, but get a decent amount of horsepower. I am looking for suggestions on how I should go about it.

by pump do you mean 89...or 93? how much is good HP in your eyes? With a 396 there really isn't much needed, a good set of heads, an intake and good carb, along with headers. How much are you looking to spend?

I'm going to be running premium in the moter. I'm wanting to get away from having to run 110. I was thinking some where around the 500 hp range. I plan on doing headers, aluminum heads, holly carb, intake, and possibly making it a roller moter. I'm just looking to see what other people have done and what combination they used.

Merlin Heads, Lunati Voodo cam 233/341 .554/.572 , Edelbrock RPM airgap manifold , And Quick Fuel 750 cfm carb...1 option. Another is Dart heads...and the edelbrock RPM cam..240/246 .560/.573 ...Also roller rockers..an electric water pump and fan will add between 10 and 20.

Try a Stroker crank and use Forged pistons if you're going to be running that kind of horsepower. To develop horsepower, the engine needs to breath. Most of your money will be put into the heads. A performance shop in my neck of the woods swears by Air Flow Research heads. Or have a set of heads ported for better flow. With better flow, you can dump more gas down its throat. Twin double pumpers or a Demon carb might help.
If you've got a few more bills to spend, throw a turbo or under-hood super charger in there. An it still runs on pump gas. With a super charger, you can even drop the cylinder compression down to 8:1 instead of 9.5:1 that most Camaros run.
