So when the 67 is idling in N and I lift off the clutch I can hear it slightly engaged. Just a slight scraping noise. It is pretty much a stock setup with a 3 speed saginaw. I put a new pressure plate and clutch in not too long agoand I am guessing that there is some way of adjusting it, but I just moved and havent found my chiltons book yet. Any suggestions?

 

If I remember right the rod that goes into the clutch fork just turns on a thread. The more you turn it the more it moves.

With the clutch let out there should be no pressure on the clutch fork besides the sping pressure. If your clutch linkage is holding the clutch somewaht disengaged while your foot is off the pedal it could cause premature wear.

Your noise sounds more like a bad throwout bearing then a clutch adjustment. Even if you installed the clutch linkage a little too tight to start with it would wear the clutch down quick and get itself some clearance pretty quick.

 

Sounds like you're "riding" the throwout bearing, and eventually slipping the clutch when it's engaged. Mechanical clutches need to be adjusted as a regular maintenance, because as the clutch disc wears thinner, the pressure plate is closing more, moving the fork forward more, and tightening up the pedal. You want to have 1" of free play at the clutch pedal pad, meaning, if you pull the pedal up by hand, you should be able to drop the pedal 1" before you feel any resistance. It should feel "loose" in that 1" of travel, like it's not pushing anything, which it shouldn't be. If you don't have that free play, you need to loosen the lock nut on the adjusting rod at the clutch fork, turn the end in some to shorten the rod, re-lock the nut, and test the free play again till you get your 1".
