Well,

I am gonna jump in here with both feet. Already been snooping around on your fourm, and I can tell you right now, I can learn alot from each of you.

I have a '69 Coupe, nothing special really. It was a code 61 brown base model coupe, with a 6cyl and column shift powerglide when new. Miss WestVirginia, 1985(?) drove my car to high school each and every day. I originally found this car in 1989 and tried to buy it, but the owner then wouldn't part with it. After purchasing and restoring several cars, I found this car again in the spring of '07. When I first approached the owner, he didn't want to sell it. Later, he approached me with a price that I felt was out of my budget, so I cordially made him a counter-offer. I told him that I wasn't trying to beat him down on the car, but that I had a certain budget in mind.

Two weeks later hecalled me and offered me the car again, for 200 dollars more than I offered him. We made the deal, and the next day the car was in my garage.



After I got into the car, I made some assesment of what I had to work with and started ordering some parts from Lutty's Chevy up near Pittsburgh Penn. Lutty's has always treated me well in the past and this car is proving to be no exception.


After receiving the parts, I started test fitting some of them. As you can tell, I opted to go with the SS style hood. I have nothing against cowl hoods, but wanted to go a different direction with this car. I may still purchase a cowl hood and just have them both painted.

This last photo shows where I am with the car today. I plan on posting more on my progress, and how I got there in the future.

I don't have any photos of the camaro 502 yet, as I am stealing the 502 from my '57 to get this build finished this summer. This is it. I will replace this 502 next summer when I am ready to finish the '57. By then, I may be using a 572 in the Belair. I will save the blower for the '57.

Okay, finally got some time to start posting some photos. Although it looks like it was fairly solid, sandblasting found some serious demons lying beneath three or four paint jobs. The first three are what it looked like when I brought it home.

The next two photos show this car once I started removing some paint, and refitting some of the new sheetmetal I purchase from Lutty's.

The next two photos show some of the damage we discovered beneath the rear window filler panel. A new panel was purchased by Lutty's, of Cheswick PA.. The sections around the window come with the quarterpanels, so those pieces would need to be fabricated to save the cost of purchasing quarterpanels to cut up.

Next we did some sandblasting, only to find out that the car also needed trunk floor, and interiorfloor repairs. We were extremely careful to stay off of the side panels and roof panel while blasting to avoid warping the thin panels.Warning,sandblaster activity will generate a great deal of additional work, while it also can save plenty as well.

When we sandblasted the body, trunk and floor pans, we found that the floor pans were so thin, a replacement was the only way to go. The next few photos show some of the prep work that was required to start replacing the floor.

The next three photos show the floor first fitted in place, and then the lower view of it welded in place. This was also purchased by Lutty's and it fit PERFECTLY. Please keep in mind, we took several measurements before, during, and after this process. With a little time and effort, you can replace your floor and get similar results.
