honestly the vacume system works well if you just replace the lines and the valve is in good working order. the only probelm with the system is the amount of hoses though

 

Hi everyone,

I have a small technical question that I hope you guys can help me find an answer to. I thought I'd post in the same thread so as not flow the forum with new thread relating to the same car.

My car worked great for about two months until I had problem to start it. After sitting in the garage for a couple of weeks, it cranked but won't start. no fuel got to the engine so I had it checked over and the mechanic changed the fuel pump. It was definitely the problem since now it's been working great.

But, here's my problem, about a month ago, we were cruising and when I got to a stop sign, the car stopped by itself. I was able to fire it up again without any problem and since I could not start it again afterwards, I couldn't use it. Anyway, I got the car back and took it for a ride. 10 minutes after being on the road, the car abruptly shut down at a traffic light at stopped traffic. again, no problem to start it again but I don't understand why she'd do that. It doesn't seem to be overheating, although I am no expert (I don't have a temp gauge). If you guys have a clue, I'd appreciate it.

One more question totally irrelevant, what is the longest cruise you did with your car?

I've had two vehicles in the past do that, and it was the coil overheating and crapping out. Not saying that's what you have going on, but see if you can check for spark if it kills and doesn't want to restart. Also, what ignition? If still points & condenser, your condenser could be the one going out.

 

Thanks for the answer. I think it's still old points and condenser but I'm not sure at all, I'll check.
I took it this morning to see if it would happen again and it didn't. I wonder if it is because of the AC as every time it happened, the AC was on whereas this morning, it was not and it was cooler outside. Could it be the reason of overheating.
Also, any time it happens, the car re starts right away.

its possible to that the carb floods when at the light. my 68 with the old quadrajet at a light would just flood over and die. do you smell gas when it dies? might be like 69 somthing in the coil or distributer. also just make sure all of your wires have a good connection. that happened to a buddy in his 53 chevy with a 327. it would just die and it was because the coil wire was loose.
