Default Whining noise

Hi there everyone I have a 1968 camaro RS. My car makes a whining noise while its running and i was told it was the timing chain. Could it be something else? I was told its a high performace part i have thats more precise. If anyone can let me know what they might think the part is makin the noise. Also if you can give me a link to a part that is quiet that would be great too. Thanks.

I think you might have streight gears instead of a chain.something that looks like this http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...mp;showValue=1
The 'preciseness' isnt even enough to make a note of, from what I understand. If you dont care much for the sound its easy enough to get a chain and sprocked set and replace them. jegs or summit should have the original stuff.

What is a double roller? Can you give me a link?
What is the sound difference between a timing chain and a timing belt? And whats the difference performance wise?

It's kind of hard to speculate without hearing the car in person. I'd take a wooden dowel (about 2 feet long) and CAREFULLY rest it on a few parts while the engine is running. Place your hand over the other end of the stick and rest your ear on it. This will amplify the noise. There is a stethescope tool for this as well, but a wooden dowel works fine. Once you've pinpointed the exact location (loudest noise) then you can search for better answers.
Rest it on the top of the timing chanin cover, valvue covers, alternator, etc. JUST BE CAREFUL! Don't get it caught in the fan!
