Default What is involved in removing the factory fuel gauge in a 68 for the tic toc tach??

Hey all,

I have a 68 non super sport that I want to remove the factory fuel gauge on the right hand side of the instrument cluster and replace with the tic-toc-tach. What kinds of things would be involved in doing this? I know I need a circuit board (mine is shot anyway).... and possibly a new wiring harness that plugs into the circuit board? I hope I could avoid this as I just looked and almost **** my pants at the prices of the wiring harnesses.

Was hoping maybe I could just hook the tach up to the coil directly. But I still would need the correct circuit board becuase the tach is pretty big on the backside and the stock circuit board wouldnt let it go thru. Plus I would want the clock to work as long as its there. I dont care if the warning lights work or not since I have aftermarket gauges for oil, batt, and temp.

And as for the fuel gauge.... would that be pretty simple to rig up an aftermarket gauge?

I have a tach on the floor by the shifter but I hate looking down at it. I love the stock in-dash ones so hopfully this could easily be done.

Thanks for all your help!!

best route would be to buy a complete dash gauge setup with tic toc tac (very pricey)
or mount a tach to the steering column??

So everything under the dash does have to be replaced...? I'm not going to buy a whole kit so I think my best bet is relocate the current tach. I was hoping there was an easier way but I guess not.

Thanks. If anyone else has any other ideas speak up!
