When I was a teen, I had to strike my starter almost every time I used this one car I had. The reason is usually that the bendix (sp) is going out. Although, I've used the same mthod with a riding lawn mower in which the starter was not old. Yep, a hammer is a great tool

You dont need to respond to the PM, I can see it now. I am having similar issues with finding a wiring diagram, apearantly they are hard to come by. I will let you know when I find one.

Hello i just checked the starter and its just fine but it seems its not strong enough to turn the fly wheel .

for the wires so far i found this
purple is switch it is the wire that cranks the starter
pink is key on
white wire is the resistance wire
yellow was the wire that goes to the coil in the old points ignition

second pic is too blurry but as far as the first one goes if you're not an A/C car

purple: S on starter
pink: coil?
yellow: from starter to coil
black: ground
lt. blue: there is a light blue wire that usually goes to the wiper motor
white: regulator to alt
orange: usually goes to the alt after splicing in with the red wire coing from the regulator
blue: right turn
lt. blue: left turn

I hope this helped a little. it is kind of hard to tell with them all being so short. usually the length of them helps out a lot

So, does anyone actually have a wiring diagram for a first gen? One you could post or a link?

I have a couple of different, full schematics andmanuals for everything 69 but they wouldn't photo well. there are a few different ones for different optioned cars

I think you should be able to buy them these days but I'm just to lazy to look because I already have them

mine are from 1983.Jim Osborn Reproducions and the phone # is/was 404-962-7556

probably worth a try
