I would try to find out information about the shop that did the work. Buying a none complete project can save you a lot of money if the work is done right. If the work is done wrong it can be more work the starting with an unrestored car. In the last few years I have seen a lot of cars that put together wrong. Someone who really has no idea what he is doing will build the car when they start mounting stuff up they can not get anything a line up, they call in someone that knows what they are doing to help and that person tells them its a do over, bang its on the market.
I have a friend who bought a 69 caprice. He was so happy cause the guy had over 18K in the restore and he got it for 10K. He said all it need was some body pannels aligned and it had and new big block that would not start. The motor was an easy fix, it was not wired correclty, set the timing and carb and it was good to go. The body, well we saved the fenders and doors but to get the trunk to align we had a choice replace the brand new quarters and sail pannel or bend the trunk a full inch. He had to build a jig and cut most of the back of the car off. He resued the quarters but the hours saving those quaters would not have been worth it if he was paying someone. Lucking almost all the welds where on the cold side (they broke real easy). If the motor had not been such a easy fix his "great deal" would have been a big steaming pile.

Your talking some way scary ****, but you're a wise man. I will ask some more questions and think a little harder. On a related note, I was watching Ebay the other day and shabang, a 68 RS was up for auction, Coupe, black deluxe interior, air, automatic. I would have not been ashamed to drive it and it went for $13k, I have thinkin' to do.
