thanks in advance
sorry to say but how could i tell (to tell you the truth im a rotary guy going to the darkside) i am planning a swap into my rx7 and just getting some research done before i jump into it. my dad has the 350 that he is willing to give me. it came out of his 69' but the PO had bought the motor from the dealership i think. my dads using his 302 instead so hes giving me the 350. i am a kid (21yoa) so i know a little more on the newer stuff then the older. so how would i tell if i could use it or which 350 is usable for this type of upgrade the the SBC isn't?
SpectorGT is not insulting you, He was simply letting you know the facts... You can get another set of heads and a fuelinjection system for you 350 though, and it will work just as good as the LS1... LS1 heads arent that great, or else they wouldnt have aftermarket parts for that motor... Get some edelbrock aluminum heads or somthing similar, and maybe an SLP "T" ram system... thatll push you past LS1 territory... and do it spending less dollars as well... Just look around, check performance websites such as Jegs . com and summit racing . com... They'll have anything you need. Good luck with your project...
the ls1 head design is above that of the old SBC heads. true, from the factory they arent the best you can get, but the aftermarket kits are just Ported and milled ls1, ls6, or 5.3L heads. the 5.3L heads give higher compression but less flow (unless fully ported) the ls6 heads give lower compression but higher flow. without extensive machining on an sbc head you usually cannot flow fast enough to support .600+ lift like u can on a stock ls1 head
cool thanks guys and by no means did i think anyone was insulting me. he was telling me info i didn't know which is why i asked in the first place. i plan on doing the swap myself. so i can get an ls1 engine and trans for around 22-25 hundred and the EFI kits i have found are around 1500 -2500 (and i would still need things to complete it. as in map sensor tps and a bunch of other little crap.) so it seems like the biggest bang for your buck is the ls1 in this matter. but by all means thanks for the input. plus i don't think there is an engine install kit for my car for the 350 and there is for the ls1(another wieghing factor). thanks again guys
