Headliner...???
So... I bought a new headliner, installed it, and it pretty much looks as bad as the first one except it's nice and shiney. I used 3M spray adhesive which was a total mess and I'm not impressed by the outcome. Anyone have any trade secrets they would like to share on installing one? It's either another $100 or $400 to get it done by someone else and I'd rather save the money and whats left of my pride. Thanks.
I've done two, so take that however you'd like.
First, lay the new one spread out for a day or two to get the wrinkles out. Then when you go to install your starting at the middle and working your way out. Some will start at the front or rear and work back or forward but however you do it, do it equally. Using the middle technique I would do to the next rod to the front, then next to the rear. Front to back, go just like that, don't jump ahead. I did the middle route since my glass was installed.
Don't trim anything until it's installed and ready to have the door liners put in.
Don't glue anything but the edges. Let the rods do thier job. And don't put the glue on until your ready to finish it.
After it's in you'll then be tweaking areas, pulling them tight and then adjusting areas. At the door edges I used small clamps to hold it in place as I continued adjusting and tweaking.
After it's all adjusted and looks then glue the edges and put clamps on them to make sure they stay in place. Once the glue is dried you can put on the rubber around the door and such.
I did the front and rear glue first, never had the glass out, and keeped pushing it tight with a spatula to get it tight in the rear. Then I went to the door edges.
After it's in then put the panels in the rear in. Once it's installed it will shrink up some more if it gets hot out. I actually tightened mine down then turned the heat up in the garage over night and glued it the next day. It shrank a good amount over night and I had some adjusting to do on the edges.
Patience, patience, patience and more.

Thanks, I'll give it another shot. Maybe I just got high from the glue?

All BS aside, it is a tough job to get perfect and those I've done aren't spot on awesome but they are done well enough no one points it out. The glue, ya, that stuff is wicked nasty so don't get bored waiting for it to dry on the car and sit there sniffing away.
now your reminding me of Tommy Boy. This is my favorite scene
