Vinyl Top To Paint
I'm looking at a 1969 Camaro that I like everything about except it has a vinyl top. The car was recently restored and looks flawless so I'm expecting there isn't much/any rust under the vinyl top but I'm curious how much work would it be to take off the vinyl top and then paint it. Is there a lot involved or just like painting the roof and stripping some glue?
I'm guessing possibly some different trip pieces?

Often times, removing the vinyl top will show some unwanted "surprises" on the metal roof. That may have already been addressed if the original vinyl was removed, and the metal cleaned up and repainted. If not, be prepared to fix more than what meets the eye.
It's amazing what a vinyl top can hide, here is a photo of a 1970 GTO roof that I pulled the vinyl top off of. When the owner brought me the car there were a few scuffs and small tears in the top so he wanted it replaced, the top appeared to be fine until it was exposed for what it was, a rusted out bondo filled mess. Obviously there was work done before, after pulling the headliner I found bondo "ice cicles" hanging down. This was so bad I actually had to replace the complete roof skin, and installed a new vinyl top. I am not saying yours is this bad, but just be prepared. The easiest way to remove the top is to pull the top off " I know duh" but then use laquer thinner and wax/grease remover mixed together scrub with lots of elbow grease to remove the glue, and the top pieces left behind, it is not a fun job. I never really liked vinyl tops until I installed a few, they started to grow on me and I think they look real good with the right color combo. Anyway, good luck!!
