hey guys I have what i thought was a 1968 Camaro ss, however when i did the vin search on it it is coming up as a 1969 Camaro. 124379N are the first numbers of the vin is there anyone out there that can help explain this to me.
It has a 396 engine in it and I don't know if this is the original engine or not and its a 2 door coupe.
The body styles of a 68 and 69 are completely different. You must have a 69 if the vin shows it. Very unlikely that the car was stolen and different vin tags installed. What does the plate on the firewall have?. You sure you have a 68' body style.
I assume you have a title? IMO the 68 and 69 do NOT look alike. The 69 has the pointed front end and the gills on the quarters. If the title says 69 then it was just a miscommunication. If the title says 68 then there are some shenanigans going on and you are screwed. 69 tend to be worth more then 68s. If the title says 69 your next step is to get the numbers off the engine, If they are numbers matching then it a SS if the motor number does not match your vin number then its any ones guess if its a real SS.
Pics of yours? '69 has the shark gills on the sides behind the doors,it could be a
'69 with a '68 front clip if it has the gills but a '68 front end. Here's a '69 (my favorite year and I had one for 14 years)
