went to put my vin in this site link then i seen its only 1981 and up why not for first gen camaro ?????

 

What did you hope to find out? The VIN doesn't tell anything about the car, except for the third digit; a 3= 6 cyl car, a 4= 8 cyl car. That's it. Model or engine info in the VIN didn't start till 1972.

 

also 68 trim tags tell very little about the car as well. 67 tags are the most usefull while 69s are a little cryptic but hold more info than a 68

 

Oh, and to answer your actual question, the reason the VIN search didn't work is because most of those lookups only work with the current day 17 digit VIN's, which started in 1981. 1980 and older cars have 13 digit VIN's, and the search may come up as an "error".

The guys over at Camaro Research Group (CRG) keep a database of VIN's for all first gen Camaro's. They may be able to tell you something.

Only if someone has sent the VIN information in to them about the car. Not all first gens.
