Default Steering Gear box number of turns

I purchased a Lares 973 steering gear box from Rock Auto for a 69 Camaro with power steering. The item information says it is a 3 to 3 1/4 turn unit. When installed in my Camaro it only turns about 2 1/2 turns before the steering system hits the stops on each side. The car had a front end alignment several months ago before I installed the unit and the wheels look to be pretty straight forward when I center them. Is the 2 1/2 turns just a feature of this car or did I do something wrong when installing it?

It all depends upon gear ratio inside. You did nothing wrong, just the way it turned out. Right box, wrong part?

The number of turns are from lock to lock. Is that how you were counting them, or were you counting from center?
