Default sound dampening

heres just a quick observation. While applying second skin spectrum spray on we noticed poor adhesive properties when applied directly to new inner and outer rocker panels ( we sprayed on with supplied gun to inside aspect of rockers prior to assembly). we concluded this was not a defect in the product but that the new rockers needed to be scuffed prior to application for proper adhesion. we plan on scuffing all surfaces now and as before wiping them down with 901 prior to application of spectrum. We matted the doors and then applied spectrum with fantastic results. You just can not believe the difference.

Many times a new metal part will have an oil film from the manufacturing process as well as to prevent rust during storage. I would think that wiping it down with paint thinner would do a great job of cleaning/prepping prior to applying any coating/paint. Don't know what the 901 is that you were using, but most any solvent would do a good job.

I always thought that slightly scratching/cleaning the surface of rust/debris/oil/etc... was body shop 101.
