just picked up 2 saginaw trans i think ones a 4 speed and ones a 3 speed casting numbers 3925647 shifts one dont but they where 2 cheep to pass up i hit a few sites to look up casting numbers no luck yet are the trans (case) the same for 3 and 4 speeds and just the insides different ??? can i make a 3 speed into a 4 speed ?????

Dont know what you paid for the transmissions, but even if you can convert a 3 speed into a four speed (I have no idea) it would probably be just about as much a finding a 4 speed Saginaw ready to bolt in by the time you bought all the internals.

 

my daughters boy friend paid 100.00 for two 3 speeds one works fine for his nova project . all the trans we see on ebay or graigs list are 400 and up for a 4speed

 

Rebuild the four speed. It is inexpensive and if you are mechanically inclined, fairly straightforward. Lots of help on the web to do this.
