Default Recommendations for create motor

Looking for recommendations for a company to buy a long block crate motor, 69 Camaro with a 350. Looking for a long block with a mild cam. Just a nice street car with reasonable power. Never race and don't really kick into very often. Wiped the cam on the engine I have now. It was supposed to have been rebuilt a few years before I bought it in 2014 but I never pulled it apart to look inside. Block needs bored, crank needs turned. Heads are pretty bad. I think I just want to go ahead and put a remanufactured engine in it. I've briefly looked at Jasper, PowerTrain Products in Maryland, Spartan ATK, and I've seen some bad reviews on all of them. Difficult to make a decision without an ample of reviews both positive and negative. Also difficult to determine if the issues were with the engine or the owner/operator installation/maintenance. Appreciate any guidance.

My guess would be he's looking at cost, there are a lot of rebuilt long blocks out there for quite a bit less but who does it right?
Something like these.

well, I have to say if I want a complete stock engine (he don't) (cam ) I would buy from ATK . I have bought from them before with not a problem from sales to preformance

Well it's pretty easy and not too awful expensive to swap in a mild cam, that's what I would suggest.
He probably mostly wants a little lope to the idle so it doesn't sound totally stock.

Sure thing,I don't have any experience with any of the vendors,I usually have a local machine shop do rebuilding but I would think any of the big players like Jegs or Summit would be using vendors that do decent work since they can supply a warranty.

I like the Chevrolet Performance GM Goodwrench 350ci Crate Engine 195 HP (Can produce up to 260 HP) item # 10067353. It's sold thru JEGS, SUMMIT and GM Parts. For the price difference I think it's smarter to go with a new engine as opposed to a rebuild. The listings I've seen at JEGS, SUMMIT and the GM parts website state this motor is for a "truck motor" but based on my limited knowledge and my discussions with GM parts, this will fit the Camaro and is a very popular motor for the 350 application.
Is this correct?

Also, it's been about 35 years since I dealt with a manual transmission. This engine "is setup for a manual transmission as the pilot bearing is installed". Can I remove the pilot bearing and use the engine with an automatic transmission? Would I have to do anything else to fit it up to the automatic?

Once again, I appreciate any advice.

you can leave the pilot bearing in the crank for a automatic swap. The button on the torque converter will not go past the flexplate

With that said you can easily remove it with a blind hole puller often available for loan at Autozone. #27128
