talk to this guy (tlowe) on www.teamchevelle he builds rears for a hobbie(side cash) and is very good and ships them all over!! he built the 12 bolt in my 71 chevelle and even gave me a 1 yr warranty and it has been flawless for past 3 yrs!!!
tell him what you want and what you have to spend.
That's a much better idea! I'm into my 10 bolt in the '71 Camaro over $1200, with new carrier, locker, axles, outboard bearing kits, and it was done 10 yrs. ago. I should have had a 9" Ford, or a 12 bolt done at around the same cost.

burnt68 makes a very good point, you would be better off upgrading the original unit. $1200 was good money for a rear end 10 yrs ago, we're getting about that to rebuild one to stock now. It's been awhile since we did anything custom.
