Default Question on Camaro

I am fresh out of college and looking to buy a camaro to restore. I have recently found a 69 Z-28 with the origional DZ 302 motor, but it is missing the origional 4 speed transmission. I was wanting to know if anyone could tell me if the transmission and motor have to have the same serial number for it to be a matching numbers car or if I could find a 4 speed transmission out of a different 69 Z-28 to replace the origional transmission and keep the car matching numbers?

Unlike the engine, the transmission does not have the car partial VIN to match it to a specific car. Should be M-21 or M-22 casting number 3925660. possibly 3925661 depending on when car was assembled.
