Default Quarter panel grills on 69 Camaro

Does anyone know if the quarter panel grills on a 69 suppose to be tight against the body or is there a small gap or space between grill and body. Thanks

I dont think they fit perfect because mine are tight against the body with gaps in the middle. But I also do not know if they are originals or after market, that could make a difference.

They are supposed to fit tight. If you have aftermarket good luck.

Thanks for the response. It looks like mine are not installed correctly as they are off of the body an 1/8 inch or so. Funny thing is they are not loose And there is like a spacer to hold them off of body.

Does anyone know how difficult it is to get to the backside of these in case I decide to try and et them flush?

The grills have mounting studs and they're held on with speed nuts that you can access from the back side once you remove the rear interior panels.
Does it look like someone may have side-stepped that part, and stuck yours on with emblem tape, or are the spacers at the mounting studs?

The spacers I think are the actual mounting studs. They look like they are connected to the grill. I wonder how they got them to stay on with an 1/8 inch of the stud still showing...plus, like I said, they are not loose at all.

Maybe the studs don't quite line up with the holes, and they're a wedge fit.

I went to pull the interior panels and don't know where to start. Does the seat need to one out first? The more I look at these grills they are touching the paint in some areas but in he middle but not towards top and bottom of the grills. These must be aftermarket grills that don't form properly to the shape of he quarter panel and/or the new quarter panel is not the correct shape. any ideas?

Yeah, you need to remove the rear seat to remove the side panels.
You can try tweaking the grills by grabbing each end, rest the spot that's touching the body on a board, and gently push down with a bouncing motion. If you have to rest the grill on the front side, use a towel to protect it. Test fit as you go. Don't go ape, and if you break it.....I know nothing!
