Pricing a Project Car
Hi everyone,
I purchased a project car quite some time ago and just have not had the time to dig into it. I will be looking to sell it soon, however I have no idea where the price point is on something like this in today's market. I'm guessing I'll have to have an asking price with an OBO designation but I need some help figuring out where that starting point will be. Basic facts for the car:
'67 convertible
327 with a 3-speed on the floor
The body is poor shape however I have new fender skins (front & rear) as well as salvaged doors. The car hasn't been running since the 90s. I'm not sure that these mean as much as they used to but I have the original clean title and the car is said to be numbers matching (would confirm while taking for sale pictures)
I'll try to get a couple quick pictures up for an idea of what the project looks like.

With convertibles projects the value is all about the condition of the rocker panels. See on the rag top the rocker panel is the frame of the car. If they need replaced it should be done by a professional on a body jig. That repair alone can cost upwards of 15k.
In my area of PA there are several "project cars" that seem to change hands because people don't understand the above, after they buy the car they get a quote then they put it back up for sell hoping to catch the next unknowing guy.
If rocker panel and rocker/firewall connection is solid the rest is about condition. Figure the car is worth about 20k done with a average restoration, work backwards on what needs done to it. That is what the buyer will do.
Edit: this shows the repair being done. The first car body Dynacorn reproduced was the first gen rag top because of the cost of restoring the bodies.
