Unhappy Please help, Car struggling to idle when put in gear!

I have been tuning my engine the past few months and I have gotten it to idle quite well. However, as soon as I shift the car into gear it immediately wants to stall and has to be given gas to keep it alive. Im not very skilled with carbs, this is my first carb controlled car in many years. Ive experimented quite a bit, but now im stumped. If anybody has had an experience like this and can offer any advice I can use all I can get. Thanks!

1969 Camaro SS, 350, holley street avenger carb, 4 speed auto, 10 bolt rear.

To put it short, too many people try to tune their carbs with the car in Park. What else is a person supposed to do when they're tuning alone.

Have a person help you by sitting in the car with the Tranny in gear, as though you are sitting at a stoplight and re tune the carb that way.

Try that, relay what you found out and if you still have problems, get back to us. I could go into all sorts of carb theories but that is the first step I would suggest before going any further.

Do you have a performance cam but a stock converter on the auto trans?
If so it may be pretty hard to get it to idle in gear.

Default Ill give it a try...

Thanks for the advice guys, ill try and tune it in gear, my dad actually mentioned the same. I was testing the vacuum advance today, made sure that wasn't the problem...about an aftermarket cam, im unsure if the car has one, ill have to ask the previous owner, but he was completely green with cars and didn't seem to know to much, or at least put on that personna. He was going to pay to have the car rebuilt until he saw the quote.

Thanks again,
Ill get back to you.
