Cplthomas is right on. The sale and closing price depends on the buyer or customer. If they happen to be into the custom paint/graffics etc., they will lay down the $$ where as a purist will also put down some serious $$ for numbers amatching numbers correct car.

Value is a tuff one. I have been around car sales and auctions since the mid 80's. I know a few guys that buy and sell a lot of car. While I am at the auctionsit seem most of the cars are pretty predictable. That is until you get to "Non-Late model" cars. I have seen guys stand there amazed athow mucha car sold. Three groups over they are amazedthe owner let it go for that. All it takes is two bidders that want that car for themselfs or trying to fill acustomers request and the price goes thru the roof. But your have a room full of guys that want quick sales and the car goes dirt cheap.

In another post we talked about the "Value" of a 87 iroc with a blown motor. Everyone believed it was not worth near 3K asking price. But if you paid that much then put 3 years of your life buildingthe car of your dreams that willlast a good 50 yearsdoes it really matter what you paid for the shell? Let face it, sure we like to say I paid $400for this and now its worth 20K. When you look and what your time is worth the 3K really does not mean much. When your cars done are you going to think "I wish I would have found a cheaper car to start with".

My advise is build it the way you want it. If you do a good solid job the value will follow (assuming you do not have extreme taste). Last thing you want to do is spend a year of your life working on a car and you do not like the color.

Long gone are the days of picking up a "survivor" for a few thousand that was not in awful shape and making a fairly easy restoration project. As the number of available cars dwindles, prices will continue ever higher. I bet you'll see some $100,000-$250,000 1st gen Camaros on Barrett-Jackson on the 15th through the 21st of this month (on Speed Channel).

Sure there are still some out there, but getting harder and harder to find. I'd consider you very lucky to have picked one up like that.
