I MEAN FOR RESALE

RE: PAINT
All numbers matching car. Yes it will hurt the value. If the car is not numbers matching I think it would have little effect on the price. Guys that are looking for all numbers matching and factory correct will walk away for a car that is not the correct color. These are the guys that pay the top dollar for a car. Almost correct simple will not do.
Mostpeople will not care as long as the color change was done correctly. By that I mean engine compartment, trunk, door jams, ect. I should not be able to tell you changed the color unless I read the tag. If I can tell a color was changed by looking around ormoving amat then yes it would effect the price.

RE: PAINT
well thanks for the input, the decision is made then the color is ppg 9700 straight black.
the numbers do not match, although the engine is still a 68 327, i ran the numbers on the block.
and the trany was a powerglide, not anymore
the price for the paint is 4500.00 with me buying the trunk pan, even though the right shock tower only has a rust hole big as a quarter, i want the complete trunk pan replaced.
the paint job is guaranteed to be showroom condition. jams and all.
with a bergundy stripe like the ss from fender to fender.
you ask why bergundy, the center of every seat almost to the outside is bergundy crush
volour, the car looks good like it is but not to my specs, especially the seats, but they look awesome and everyone seems to like them so they will stay i guess until i decide to change them back to factory. thanks gents will send some pics as soon as i figure out how to!

I dont agree, I dont think it would hurt the value of the car that much for a #'s matching car. paint is one of the easiest things to change back to ORG.
All most all #'s matching cars have allready been repainted anyway

Ihave to disagree with firebird. Originality alwaysholds a better value. Especially if the car has all the right options. The 1st Q I'm always asked about my car is if it's original including color (frost green). When I reply yes, I'malway's told to leave it that way.

It can be a repaint in original color. which most are. So if he was to change the color to what he likes while he owns it and then if he repaints it back to original color to sell it then how does that hurt the value. That is what I was refering to when I said I dont think it would hurt the value, because it can allways be returned back to original color very easy. Like I said how many are with the original paint? Not to many.

Original color? or original paint? There is a big differance there.
It can be a repaint in original color. which most are. That is what I was refering to when I said I dont think it would hurt the value, because it can allways be returned back to original .....................I SAY There would be no point in re-painting to original color then selling it if and when that time ever came. The amount of money spent on the re-paint to original would definetly over-run the amount gained in re-sale. Any car with original paint on it STILL has "patina"and is worth more.car's that have been re-painted to original colors will be worth more then car's that have been changed out simple as that. These car's cost a fortune to revive them and keep them nice. It sure dont take long to spend far more money then anyone could expect to re-gain in a re-sale

RE: PAINT
I got to thinking abouthtis.... If you are talking Barret-Jackson value, then yes it will effect it. But ebay value, not as much. Sometimes you can get a buyer who likes the new paint scheme and might actually pay more to keep the new color (racing stripes etc...) then again you might run into a purist that wants it back to origional...... and (I think this was another good point made) that if it has the origional pain, like from the factory and never repainted then wow, deffinately worth keeping it, so long as the patina is controlled.
I think I just started another controversy...
