Default Pace Car

Hey, a guy I know up here has a 69 pace car. Its a beautiful car from Florida but he was wondering how to tell if it was a true pace car or a reproduction. He was told that it is a true pace car because of the clock in between the gauges on the dash, but I told him I thought any car could have that as an option. Im not to privy on 1st gen's so I told him i would try to find out. It is obviously the white convertible with the orange strips and writing on the side. Any sure way of telling if it is a reproduction? How many copys did they pound out of this car?

There were 3,675 Pace Car replicas built.
Look at the trim tag on the firewall. If it's a true pace car, there will be a "Z11" code on the right half of the tag.
The car came as an SS/RS (hideaway headlights) combination. But it would only be sporting SS badges, not RS badges. It should have the options that came with the SS and RS options.
And, the interior is orange/black.
Engine options were either a small block 350 or big block 396.
It also came with a "cowl induction" hood.
If his is a matching numbers car, that would help to identify it as an SS or not.
And if it is a real pace car, it's worth a bundle.

clock has nothing to do with it - Mine's origional and it doesn't have a clock - z11 tag is the key and it's they were all a certain range of serial numbers I believe.

Not all pacecars had the Z11 tag. There are quite a few LOS tagged original pace cars..

They are all produced between Feb and May 1969 and the VN cars (aprox 500 built) didn't have z11 on the tag.
