Default Need some engine/head input

Piecing together an engine for my 69 rs convert. Will be starting with a correct date block either 3970010, 3972386, or 3972388. I am trying to accurately rebuild an SS engine. What heads are correct? What is the appeal of "double hump" heads? Is it possible to convert 1.94 heads to 2.02?

Any other comments would be appreciated.

Thanks

Basically the hump heads add to originality. If you are concerned about being or lookingoriginal, then you have no choice but to use correct dated components.

The 3970010 block was used from 1969-72 for the 302 and 350, used in anything from the Z/28, regular Camaro, Corvette, Nova, Chevelle, Monte, Full Size, and trucks. The other two, I assume you meant 3932386 & 2388 and not 397...? The 2386 was either a 327 or 350, the 2388 was a 350, both used in the same vehicles listed above.
OOH...Double hump heads!! Actually it means nothing special, unless the casting # says it is. Three different castings had that mark, from1962-68...the 461, 462, and 291. Some of them were special hi perf applications, some weren't. Simply having a double hump doesn't make it a hi perf head. Onegood castingtolook for would be the hi perf big valve 3927186 heads used on the Z/28, Vette, and Nova SS.

I've been trying to restore a 67-350 engine for which I have most of but not all the original parts. Parts that over the years have been mixed up with those of other Chev. V-8's engines of the 62 to 69 era.
My advice is, find out all you can about correct part numbers and dates before you jump into purchases.. Learn form list members and try to verify their information with as many experienced folks as you can find. I've gotten bit several times with the wrong parts or information because I wanted to get on with the project.. For example I have 3 harmonic damper/timing cover sets and still not the proper one ( I think anyway!) also 3 sets of heads, mainly because I was told from a supposed, learned, restorer that the proper heads for my application (1967) had the the 3 boss holes in the front of each head to mount accessories! (tain't so!) anyway I bought a set of double humps (unseen) that reportedly had the accessory bosses, they did, unfortunatley though they were two left side heads not a right and and left!! The only good part of that deal is they have bronze guides, hard seats, as well as screw in studs and the larger 2.02 valves that are new as well!! Now I suspose I'll have to find a project to use these non original heads on! As I said be careful out their!! hipirn
