So i picked up a 69 camaro in rough shape....but got it super cheap so i can't complain. The story behind it is this guy bought it from his friend..which he gave me the bill of sale from that transaction....that guy bought it from his friend knowing that he pulled the VIN tag off to use on a Dynocorn body...the car i bought still has the stamped partial vin on the fire wall behind the heater box...it decodes to a 69 but i don't know what the other serial numbers mean? Is there any way i can trace it to find out the real vin or if the real vin is registered or not or info on the vin? What can i do with these numbers? how do i obtain a title and vin number? I got the body, rear end, multi leafs, sub frame, 350 block, hood, bumbers, lights al for 1500 bucks so if anything i can use it as a mock up and buy a titled fixer upper later and transfer my parts or sell this one as a race car only so i don't think i got the raw end but would like to figure out how to register and tilte it with out a salvage or registering it as a 2010 like a kit car.....

 

First of all, the guy who took the VIN tag off your car and put it on another car broke a Federal law. It's not a State law, not a local city law, not an ordinance. It's big time felony. You could cause some real trouble for him if you wanted to. So....if you paid any more than it's value in parts, you got screwed. You can't title the car with the VIN # it started with since it's already being illegally used by someone else on a different car, and you have no "title ownership".
