When I had my engine overhauled, I told the guy that I was using my Camaro for street performance/some strip time. He did everything like putting new pistons in, new crank, heads, cam, etc. Well, the guy who is currently doing my paint is also a big strip racer and I told him to look over everything and tell me what parts I'll need in order to make it better. He called the guy who overhauled my engine and the guy told him that my cam is a solid with a .526 lift. My painter told me that's pretty mild and said if I want it to run worth a damn I should put a bigger cam in (he's running a 383 with a .676 lift). What do you guys think? Is it worth the money to buy a new cam with new lifters? I'm running a 468. Thanks.

 

Solid lifters for street use can be a PIA. Are you willing to adjust valve clearance once a month?

 

Depends on duration and center lines also. If more street than track why did you go with solid and not hydraulic?

 

For a big block the 526 is tiny, we are running a big block with all howards cam valvetrain, cam is a solid roller specs 260-270-680-680 lsa 112 nice street and bracket cam, with a big kick in the ***, by the way, if you deside to go hydraulic i have all new valve springs and lifters up for sale
