Black is always a pain to keep clean, and yes it's hotter in the sun too. I've owned a few black on black cars, and my present '71 is such a dark gray everyone thinks it's black from a distance. I hate cleaning it, and then having it get dusty the next day, but I'd still choose the same thing again, just from the compliments it gets when it's clean!
Black is just plain eye candy, and people love it as much as us owners love it!

 

Black is a pain to keep clean, and I live in Lubbock which is the dust bowl. Tan is about the only color that doesn't require a daily car wash.

 

I agree with Gorn about the black on black in the south. Mine has no AC and deep hot summer days are best spent in the garage or under a tree and it's not even black. Black also shows every swirl. Build the car you want to have the sky (and money) is the limit but the idea is to enjoy the end product. Good luck with the build!!

 

Well, money is limited, sad to say; however, my imagination isn't and neither is my time (Lord willing). The person that had the car before me was intent on making it a race car and did several things that are slowing the process down significantly. It's a solid car, and I'm thankful for that, but had I known some of the things I know now I'd have probably kept on looking for "my" car.

If your only choice is tan, might as well get a 4dr sedan. Really, if getting dusty will affect every color, then I wouldn't worry about which color I chose. They'll all get dusty, and all need washing, or dusting. I bought one of those California Dusters, and just give it a swipe when I uncover it for a drive. Mine gets dusty covered up in the garage, and it's just something I have to do to keep it looking good.
Same as cleaning under the hood, and undercarriage. Once in awhile a guy just has to get out there and do some cleaning.

 

It's gonna be a while before paint is an issue. There is a lot of work to be done and at this point I wish money grew on trees.

 

I'm in complete agreement with Gorn. I had a black on Evo a few years ago (I live in So Ga) I couldn't stand that car in the middle of summer with the a/c on full blast.
Black is an absolute nightmare to keep clean, and if your body shop doesn't get it perfect, everytime the light hits it you'll see the flaws.
I do paint and body on the side, and turned down a job, doing a black car, a couple of weeks ago because the guy didn't want to leave the car with me long enough to get it perfect (said, "it ain't gotta be perfect, just paint it")...not with my name attached to it. I'm not saying that you would be in such a rush, but black is a PITA all the way around. Just my .02 , I love to look at a well done black car, I'll just never own one again.
