The funny thing about that movie professionals inspected that car and said it was in good shape. After it came back from the blaster there was dicussion of scraping it. They put more money in that body restoration then what a Dynacorn body would cost. Ebay was one of their sponsors I think. So they found the car on Ebay. If they proved anything it was never buy a project from Ebay! LOL

 

Yep, is human nature. We believe what we want to believe. I keep saying to myself "you should have bought a finished car, not a project" and I think that we do that because of the same "maybe it won't be so bad" even though we read about 100 cases and 99 of them tell the same sad story. The way I see it every project car is a Pandora box unless you buy something that is already dismantled and sand blasted.
I have seen people living no more than roof frame and side rails on a car, I mean talk about taking the car apart. I saw this one guy who by the time he took his car to get sandblasted he took maybe 10% of the sheet metal, then came back home and cut 2 or 3% more and then started with all new metal. The only answer I can come up with -and I am not saying this is the case with everybody- is that we all want to have something that is original to the body of the car. If I had the $13K to spend on a new body, I wouldn't do it because I think I would feel that I am going to end up with a kit car and not the real thing, it would be like loosing your soul... not much left after that. Call me crazy but that is how I feel.
Now I am a man of faith so I still have high hopes on my shell being as good as it looks, but in the end I have already committed to doing things right so at this point we will go as far as we have to. Again, as much as I enjoy working on cars, i still think I should have bought a completed car. Once you get passed the pain of dropping the $40K you have nothing but joy.

 

Oh I say that about everyday with as long as this has taken us to do mine. But it will be my work when its done and there isnt a $$ value you can put on the feeling I get every time I look at her and know what Ive done. It just sucks cause I really want to be driving her. So I get up everyday and think of what piece in the puzzle I can complete when I get home from work.

 

Heck I wanted to drive mine the day I picked her up, and thats no joke so don't laugh. $30 or $40K can buy you a nice finished ride, but it won't have the same feeling you would if you do your own car, I don't care who you are you can not buy pride; pride in a good sense that is, And the pride that you will feel each and every time you drive, wash or wax her or even just stare at her is something that no one can buy with money. It is a major PITN but I think it is well worth it. I also think that you actually learn to appreciate your car more than if you just put the money out to buy it... in a sense we a re doing it twice, do the work and put out as much money -if not more- than those who buy an already done car.
I am not saying I am right but that's the way I feel about it.

 

No I think you are right. When I decided that I would go back to my 1st love and get an old camaro, I called about this black 69 conv that I saw online at a local dealer who deals in nothing but classics. He wanted 36k for it. Says oh yea this thing had one owner and its numbers matching and will be worth so much more down the road.........yea sitting in my garage......lol......sometimes I wish I wouldve bought it. It will prob always be worth more than mine because of the mear fact that it is numbers matching and in such good condition....but as you say...no one can put a price on pride. All the time energy and love that is going in to mine....you just cant imagine.
