I got it! A 1968 Camaro
I found my info from different sources such as http://www.camaros.org, http://www.chevy-camaro.com/faq/chev...ro-faq-SS.shtm, some books I have, etc. I never said mine was an SS but I was just pointing out according to what I have read you could get a 350 SS with a 10 bolt. Here is a quote from one site... "A 10 or a 12 bolt could be ordered with an SS." Another points out the 10 bolt on an SS could only be ordered with the 350 and not the 396's. And the L30 came with a 10 bolt unless equipped with a M20 4-speed in which case it received the 12 bolt.
I admit I am not a Camaro expert (Corvettes are where my primary knowledge lies) but when I see multiple sources saying the same thing I tend to lean towards believing rather than disbelieving the info.
For me, based on what I have driven, stock original cars (including the 427's etc.) are not all that fast. I have driven everything from Camaro 396's and Firebirds with 455's to 440 Challengers and hi-po 289 mustangs. I have to say by todays standards they are not that fast in stock form (yes, modded they can be made real fast!). I raced against my friends 427 equipped firebird (with a 4.11 posi) with a mostly stock 93 Corvette and litterly destroyed him. Had pretty much the same results with a 96 Mustang up against the 71 440 Challenger (Challenger lost). I would say since the late 80's early 90's modern engine tec surpassed what was possible in stock form from the 60's and early 70's.
Now you want to talk fast... Should have ridden in the 430HP 98 Corvette I used to have or my neighbors supercharged 2002 TransAm LS6 with 600 rwhp! Crazy fast!
Back to the Camaro I just got... I never said it was anything more than a base camaro V8 (it was an original V8) with a new 290HP 350 engine and TH350 transmission that were installed in 73. It is one of the most exceptionally clean unrestored vehicles I have ever seen (especially for the price) which is why I bought it. More than likely in the future I will drop an Edelbrock or Holly top end kit on it that makes about 450 HP. Might even turn it into a SS 350 tribute or something (I like the spoilers and stripes). Who knows. I had several car guys I work with say I should not be driving it and it should be sold at Barret Jackson for a lot more than I paid since it is so exceptionally clean. For me, I am just going to have fun with it and enjoy cruising in the San Diego sun.
So there... Want to fight...
LOL!

[QUOTE=The L30 327 (275hp) was also backed by a 12 bolts. Where are you getting this info from? Have you decoded the numbers on the motor and trans?

There seems to be a confusion on the L30 engine, this is not the first time I see this on the forum. L30's which came either MK= manual 3 or 4 speed and MM= power glide for norwood and th400 for Van Nuys cars. Either way, same 327, same 275 hp and yet, cars like mine came factory with a 10 bolt, not 12 bolt.
That is as far as 67 goes though, but there was such a thing as an L30 with a 10 bolt rear.

In 1968 cars with a code M15=3 speed manual or M35=automatic came with a 10 bolt rear. Apparently only cars with an M20=4 speed muncie came with a 12 bolt rear (this as far as non SS cars of course)
now as far as your 350, Gorn is right, no 350 came with a 10 bolt. L48, Z28, L35/34 and L78 all came with 12 bolt regardless of tranny.
I still think your car is awesome.

Thanks! Its a blast! Im sure this was originally a 327 Camaro but now its a 290HP 350 with a TH350 Auto and a 10 bolt rear (which I bet is running only 2.78 gears). Lots of fun even if its not a speed demon... yet.
first beautiful car, when you say original im thinking protecto plate matching numbers etc, my 68 camaro is that and she is slower than a fat pig running down hollywood blvd on friday night in los angeles..
http://www.youtube.com/comment_servl...&v=jN2DvOSoXss
Im in los angeles and know how it is where i live, if it has matching numbers than i say leave it slow and original, but if the car doesnt have its original engine and its a 68 it better have some *****, i hate to say that but its true.. my 68 is slower than a pig but it has matching numbers original tranny power glide everything , and i have the protecto plate to marry up to the block etc.. thus its ok to have her slow and people say leave it the way it is as its worth 30k as is..
now my 67 camaro isnt original at all, the engine wasnt original etc, so i say why settele for only 300hp lol, i bought a crate engine from summitt racing for 3600 its a 383, came with dyno paperwork 430 hp with 460 lbs of torque the rear end is posi traction etc.
I have own both my 67 and 68 camaros for years at 38 yrs old i now see just plain jane non matching numbers with a swaped out engine, no performance going for 18-20k case in point HOT AUGUST NIGHTS car show up near reno i saw a 68 camaro and please im not makingthis up sell for 19k in front of me, the car had an old rusted looking 327 engine no matching numbers no protecto plate the inetrior was needing work and the car had bondo on it.
I think it has gone out of control, i have stayed in the frame of mind either go hot rod or stay OEM i dont see an inbetween especially where i live at cruise central and hobbiest have told me in the past what i know today.. if oem stay the course if not get as much cubic inch for the buck now as hot rods have shy rocketed in value, as for my 67 i refuse to let another import pass me by lol, and every1 wants to race me... hopefully the blue print engine will take care of it at 430 horse power dynod with documentation..
I would stroke out the 350 you have 290 hp butthat is mild its a 68 camaro and unless all original it should have some ***** and everyone will want to try you out and they will as you are driving an american icon around .. unless she has matching numbers i would stroke that engine out and enjoy it .. wouldnt cost that much if you have a large journal 4 bolt main etc.. you can make it a 383 and get an additional 150 hp out of her if not even more on a mild budget.. Beautiful car take care.
