help, vinyl top, rust? where to look
So, im going to look at a 69 on the dec 4th ( tomorrow), The story on the car is like every other old car, bla bla bla, all original, 30K miles bla bla bla, Anyway the man says the bottom of the car is 100% rust free. That got my attention, I dont care about the other stuff, He has sent me photos, ( low quality) and it does look to be very very clean, the trunk i cant see any rust, or signs of water leaks in the photos,...
What im worried about is the top, its a factory vinly top, and its ripped up pretty bad in the photos.. The owner says its always been inside, again bla bla bla, I dont like the tops, so it will be removed when the car is repained if i buy it..
So i guess my real question, is Where do i look for signs of rust when the top is covered.. Im assuming the rear deck lid, ( the place below rear window) and on the inside of the trunk like usual. The A piller? and front floor boards... Im assuming the water can run that way as well..
Sorry for the lame question, ive just never done anything with these vinly top cars.

look the whole top over. rust can form anywhere on the top of a vinyl top car. my 68 was a top car and had a little in the top of the a pillar. check around the window and around all the edges of the top like on the c pillars, and since its a 69 all along the top since they don't go all the way to the drip rails. Mainly check the c pillar since there is also a panel seam there. if there are any bubbles in the top 95% of the time its rust.
